Point in Time Survey Underway

The day after DCHC's point-in-time survey got underway, the local newspaper ran this story on the local front page.

The local newspaper covered DeSoto County Homeless Coalition’s fourth annual census of the local homeless population. In addition to doing a nose count, trained volunteers conducted surveys to determine type of homelessness and to help evaluate the need for services. The snapshot of the point in time is carried out in coordination with the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Charlotte Sun Runs Story of Homeless School Children

Sun Newspapers ran a comprehensive story of homeless school children in our local districts. The story ran on the front page of all editions. Writer Pamela Staik used local and Web sources to describe the scope of the issue.

Who We Are and What We Do

This is the home page for the DeSoto County Homeless Coalition. We are a five-year-old effort that organized to alleviate the hardship and stigma associated with having no permanent address.

Our outreach includes not only the homeless — whether temporary or long-term — but also the agencies in our area that are equipped to help.

Our action area is primarily DeSoto County, Fla., and its core city, Arcadia, but we are a key part of a larger, regional program, Florida Heartland Consortia, a quasi-governmental arm of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
